Every five minutes I hit refresh on the California Secretary of State webpage, and every five minutes Barack's numbers go up by a tenth of a percentage point. By dawn, he should have trounced Hillary Clinton and will be well on his way towards deposing Xenu as our galactic overlord.

I really need to go to bed.

ETA -- 12:14 a.m., 38.1%. 12:19 a.m., 38.2% IT'S SERIOUSLY LIKE CLOCKWORK AND IT'S MAKING MY BRAIN DRIBBLE OUT OF MY EARS.

Step away from Owen Wilson, Travolta and Preston. I swear, if you two come within 15 feet of that poor man with an e-meter and a bottle of frickin' niacin, I will have to call shenanigans on your Scientologist asses. SHENANIGANS!

(I seem to have come down with a case of the dread OotP CAPSLOCK OF DOOM of late. I apologize for that. Usually when politics makes me upset, I start paying attention to celebrities, and vice versa. Unfortunately, they both have me quite riled up right now.)

my first post back, and it's a britters one. britney got a really cute tattoo. unfortunately, she got it because of her trendy infatuation with kabbalah, and she got the letters backwards.

i still think the tat's cute, though.

kirk cameron cajoles us for money so we can learn to proselytize more annoyingly.

just wanted to say upfront that i know precious little about haiti. but i'm getting kind of upset at how people on the left are painting the situation in strokes just as broad as those in the major media. "the US staged a coup to remove a democratically elected leader!" well, ok. but from my understanding, the US "democratically" put him in power in the first place, and he proceeded to "democratically" fix all future elections. aristide is not a good guy. these thugs who were demanding a voice in the government? they used to be aristide's thugs. he used them to intimidate political foes and pretty much violently hold up his regime. then there was some kind of falling out and they turned on him (notice maggie's very limited detail). neither side is right. both are bad. no need for the left to respond to overgeneralized representations of the facts with their own blanket statements. just because the US removed aristide from power doesn't mean we should all hold aristide up as some kind of champion of the people.

why does recognizing that there are two sides to every issue suddenly make me a moderate? i don't think the one logically proceeds from the other.

oh, and re: my subject line? if i never hear another word about mel gibson and the stupid passion of the christ, i will die happy. shut up, people! we get it: it's controversial and successful and violent! oh my! now SHUT IT.

i'm not religious. i believe in a lot of buddhist tenets, but i don't know if i believe in reincarnation. but i do believe that wherever fidget is, he's at peace. and so i'm sad, but i feel like wherever he is, he understands.

i'm going to go look at kittens tonight. whistle is really desperate for companionship. she follows me wherever i go and makes the most pitiful mewing noises. it makes me sad every single time i pet her.

this is all very hard.

good to know that in the face of national tragedy, the christian right is still focused on what's really important: blaming my employers for all that is wrong with the world. The following is stolen from the boards on mighty big tv: )
