i was thinking yesterday about how i have frequent moments of deja vu. for example, mati was sitting in the wicker chair and talking about something, and there was a moment where the tone in his voice and the position of his body and the look on his face were things i had SEEN BEFORE, probably in a dream, i would swear it. this has happened to me for a long time and it always weirds me out.

but then i started thinking about the computer game "deja vu", and how i never really got into that one. it seemed very adult and noir to me, and i didn't find that appealing. but i remember loving another text-command based game, and i wasn't sure of the name but i thought it was "transylvania", and lo and behold, i was right:

my dad and i used to sit and play that game and give it commands that it wouldn't let you do -- i.e. when that werewolf would show up, tell it to "puke up garlic" and the computer would be like "i do not understand that command. werewolf eats you. game over."

i also used to play "life and death" with thea, but that was many years later and much higher tech. i just remember we could never quite make it through the appendectomy, so we'd get punchy and start doing ridiculous things, like putting blood in the IV drip, and cutting someone's subcutaneous fat open and then scrubbing it with a sponge for no reason. i was never very good at video games, but i had my fun.

this is like my sim city wet dream. of course, it'll probably never come out for mac. but still -- see how shiny!

i've finally gotten the itunes music store working again, and audioscrobbler, too, to a certain degree. audioscrobbler's really fun when it's working. i highly recommend it to abby, if only because it's a cool way to find out what music [livejournal.com profile] alicetiara and [livejournal.com profile] sadgirlseven are listening to. i actually spent a good amount of time this afternoon downloading alice-approved stuff. i trusted her opinion that the whole death from above 1979 album is good, and it is. i've also discovered frou frou and visqueen.

also, check out [livejournal.com profile] sadgirlseven's blog to hear her and her pretty pretty voice singing "black boys on mopeds". it's my favorite thing i've heard since nina gordon's cover of "straight out of compton".

ugh! everything on my computer is being dumb! apparently, i have to reauthorize all off my songs that i purchased off of itunes to play on this computer. of course, itunes is not connecting for me today, for some bizarre reason. i tired resetting my password, so i KNOW i have the right password. it's just being criznappy. my audioscrobbler won't connect -- it keeps saying there's a server error. and just now, i tried to open xjournal to post? and it wouldn't connect. but i know the internet is working, because i can read webpages. i just don't know what's going on.
phamos: (nerd)
wait, so, the ipod shuffle connects via USB, not firewire?
phamos: (mario)
when someone tries to rip you off on ebay, send 'em the p-p-p-powerbook. fake escrow accounts are teh suck.

so karen's doing this audioscrobbler thing. i just set up my account and it doesn't seem to be updating the webpage yet, but i'll give it a little while longer.

anyway, it's like friendster for music nerds. you download a plug-in that keeps track of all the songs you listen to and posts it to this webpage, where you can link to friends and see what they're listening to. it also keeps statistics of your most listened-to artists. looks like fun. come join me so karen isn't my only friend. she listens to an awful lot of dandy warhols, by the way...

aw, hell. i just realized i forgot to buy my stuff at work. crap. i'll get it tomorrow. i don't really need to obsessively watch season 5 of the simpsons. i'll find another way to amuse myself. like maybe obsessively watching old episodes of newsradio. until segev comes home and makes me stop, of course.

i got a lovely card from [livejournal.com profile] fastrada yesterday. it was very nice of you to include segev's name on the card.

my ipod played happy music on the way home. "bullet the blue sky", spoon, elastica, and cathy dennis. it made me think about how great bono's voice was back around joshua tree, and how much he's been coasting ever since. i know, i know, boo hiss, everyone loves bono, he's saving the world one jesse helms at a time. but...their last two albums have been just so...polished. no real emotion. even POP had more emotion. heh. i love pop. U2's always been more about the melody than the lyrics for me, but...i dunno, the lyrics are just getting cheesier and cheesier now. vertigo...i didn't know...slip your hand in my glove of love, whatever. and in 1987, he had eyeballs. now, who knows? i've said it before and i'll say it again. take off the sunglasses, bono. no. really. now. take them off. and get a haircut. he still looks like his "fly" character, but now it looks like a fly that got smashed on the windshield of a mack. and just for equal opportunity bashing, i will say that my old boyfriend larry mullen jr has a stupid haircut, too, and is looking pretty tatty. who would have guessed that adam clayton would age the best of all of them? (the edge still looks good. the edge is cool.)

color me impressed by itunes: they have sonic youth's "ciccone youth" album, which i couldn't find on limewire.

color me not impressed: the song won't download at the moment.

it has been noted by many journalistic outlets, both mainstream and otherwise, that the white earpods that come with your ipod have taken on a status symbol role in this city. i must admit, at the beginning, i was always a little tickled to see someone wearing the earphones on the subway, thinking, "they have the same thing i do!" but that was mostly because i wanted them to succeed so my apple stock would go up. now, they've become so ubiquitous that all i can think is, "man, get some decent earphones! those ones are shit." because they ARE. they're really uncomfortable and the sound is crap. so i just contentedly listen to my music on my fancy-present-from-segev headphones, aware that no one knows i'm using an ipod, and not really caring.

i want! i want! oh, fart. i have to start buying lottery tickets, i think.

is it normal to get charged for INCOMING calls to your cell phone?!? we just got this enormous bill, and i think they're charging us for calls we've received. is this actually what normally happens?

i got the coolest birthday present from segev! he bought me noise cancelling headphones. they're supercool. it's just your own little room of sound -- womb of sound, even. and they cancel out low end noise, like the air conditioner or airplane engines. we shall see how they work on the subway. and they come with their own spiffy little carrying case, and an ipod fits in it too. yaaaay!

a watched mp3 never downloads.

aw, hell.

alex and simon's girlfriend told me that if i cancelled the cable, i would still be able to use the video feed from the old cable line. WRONG! they just cut it, so now i have to watch blurry tv with an antenna. maybe i'll reinstate my basic cable. it's like $20 a month. $20 a month for networks plus TNT and TBS. crapweasels.

segev is actually looking up hints for zelda online now. this nintendo-on-the-computer thing has to stop.
phamos: (claps)
woo! and hoo! my printer works!

as segev said, "just in time for...oh."

well, at least i'll be able to print papers next semester.

earlier today i bought a 25 pack of what i thought were blank cds. that'll teach me to read more carefully. they're just jewel cases.

oh well. now i have to go out and buy a spindle of blank cds so i can later insert said cds into said jewel cases. but i was totally going to burn all these cds tonight! argh.
