I don't remember if I mentioned this back when Old School Sesame Street Volume 1 came out, but I remember being shocked by it and am glad other people were, too: The DVD has a disclaimer saying that it is meant for adults and might not be suitable for "the needs of today's preschool child." So all the kids that grew up watching Sesame Street between 1969 and 1979 (the years covered by the two available sets) have been horribly mind-warped? Whew! Glad I just missed the cutoff. I'm sure volume three will be totally acceptable. After all, Elmo arrived in 1984. He'll make everything alright.

Elmo makes me want to pull my hair out, scream, and tip over the tv. I won't though, because my niece and neph love him.

I probably started watching it in 1980 or so (born in '77), so I guess I missed the Sesame Dark Alleyway. That's a bummer. Oh well; in 1980 my mom made me watch The Shining with her because she was too scared to watch it by herself. So at least I got some evil at an early age.

Bottom line: that warning is really strange.

I kind of want to order these videos for my kid. I'd rather have him/her watching old school Sesame Street than the nightmare that is children's t.v. today. Is that wrong?

No, I completely agree. I feel like my kids are going to hate me, because I fully plan to force them to watch all the stuff from my childhood that I love. And then they won't be able to commiserate with their friends, and they will be thoroughly unpopular, and I will have ruined their lives. But at least I'll have an excuse to watch Sesame Street without looking like a total wacko. (Oh, who am I kidding -- I totally already watch it, and everyone who knows me knows I'm a wacko.)

I have an entire DVD rack of kids DVDs. They're all for my non-existent, hypothetical children. Oh yes, they are.

(The Last Unicorn is awesome.)

That's pretty awesome. I feel like most people I know my age have seen the movie, but maybe I'm hanging out with a fairly self-selecting sample.
