This might put a crimp in Veronica's shoe budget.

I'm going to miss my Daily Show, but as the daughter of a (former?) WGA member, it's pretty obvious where my sympathies lie. Writers get screwed over in Hollywood, both monetarily and in terms of general respect. Without a script, what do you have? (Don't answer that; we'll see soon enough. Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, 24-7. Shudder.)

Do you think the strike will last very long?

I know the last one, 20 years or so ago, lasted 5 months. From what I understand, the two sides are currently MILES apart and no one is blinking, so I don't see it ending any time next week.

WOOOOW. I didn't realize the last one had gone on so long. *wince*

This is gonna be rough on a lot of people.

Yeah, the industry employs so many people that you never even think about...assistants, craft services, security guards, you name it. Those are the folks who are going to have a really tough time. I hope it gets resolved quickly, but fairly.

Exactly. I hope that they don't have to settle, just to put food on the table, if it's not a fair contract.

I wholeheartedly support the strike, in that I support the creative people getting the money they deserve. In an arts industry, it's artists, not suits, who should be making the big money.

But yeah, this is gonna hit me hard if it goes on for any length. I completely loath almost every single reality or game show out there, so my wish is for _more_ scripted shows instead of less. What I hope happens with this is that, once scripted shows run out of new episodes...people just simply turn off their televisions, withholding Nielsen ratings from all that other crap, and the studios then realize not only that they need writers, but that they should drop reality shows in favor of good scripted shows. But I know that I'm in a minority with my beliefs--some reality shows, at least, get really, good ratings, still win their timeslots--and it's more likely that the opposite will happen instead.

But hey, the bright side is that for every hour filled with crap like reality programming, I get an hour away from the boobtube, perhaps even doing something constructive!
