OK, here's the musical mix-and-match news for the day, complete with fun yousendit links!

Death From Above 1979 is breaking up. Apparently one member is working with Josh Homme on a new Queens of the Stone Age album, which -- yay! I can only imagine how much cowbell will be on that record. The other member is part of a duo called MSTRKRFT, who have done remixes for Metric and the Kills (and, in fact, for DFA1979). I'm listening to their album now, and I don't love it. There are a couple of good songs, but they seem to be trying too hard to sound like Daft Punk. But as far as remixing, they're ace. I guess they need the stabilizing influence of the rock songs so they don't just descend into bleeps and bloops.

And, weirdly, Johnny Marr is joining Modest Mouse. I'm not linking to mp3s for that one, because I think most of you know what the Smiths sound like, and I don't love Modest Mouse, and I don't have that Johnny Marr and the Healers album on my computer anymore cuz it was weak.

Now that Amazon is selling groceries, the reviews page for a gallon of milk has apparently become the target for, at this point, 332 jokers who feel it's their destiny to write the funniest thing about milk ever published on the internet.

There was one that tickled the funny bone of this Sesame Street-obsessed reader:

I drank the last of the milk 3 days ago, and so my mother decided it was time I replenish it. I was walking down to the local store to purchase a loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter... when I came across a man with arms that went the wrong direction and everything was in psycadelic colours and sounds. I went by an insane machine and then by a crazy fountain, and got to the store, and purchased my goods, only to realize that I forgot where I was. I asked advice of a strange technicolor man, who sent me on my way ... having reminded me of all the bizarre landmarks I passed. So I got home and exclaimed to my mother look, I remembered! A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter!

I hope they do realize that those are two separate sketches. And if we're going to mention Sesame Street sketches having to do with milk, I must, of course, post my personal favorite.

"The Descent" is a scary, scary movie. Unfortunately, I don't much care for scary movies. It wasn't what I was in the mood for, and it was both uncomfortable (if you're claustrophobic or afraid of heights, as I am, you will grit your teeth for the middle 45 minutes) and scream-out-loud startling. The fact that we saw it at the Magic Johnson Harlem theatre, where the audience reaction is usually pretty enthusiastic, made it more fun. A lot of the scary stuff is cliche, but it's still effective. I was bored by the first half-hour and pretty much knew who was going to die and in what order. But if you want to see a movie that's going to make you scrunch your eyes and jump a little bit, this is as good as any.
