"The Descent" is a scary, scary movie. Unfortunately, I don't much care for scary movies. It wasn't what I was in the mood for, and it was both uncomfortable (if you're claustrophobic or afraid of heights, as I am, you will grit your teeth for the middle 45 minutes) and scream-out-loud startling. The fact that we saw it at the Magic Johnson Harlem theatre, where the audience reaction is usually pretty enthusiastic, made it more fun. A lot of the scary stuff is cliche, but it's still effective. I was bored by the first half-hour and pretty much knew who was going to die and in what order. But if you want to see a movie that's going to make you scrunch your eyes and jump a little bit, this is as good as any.
