so i've downloaded a livejournal client. i don't really know what the benefits of using a client are, given that i'm on a cable modem so i'm always connected, but whatever. maybe this will be easier. we shall see. i'm using journalert. its interface is nice and shiny and aesthetically pleasing so far.

those of you who use clients, can you tell me what benefits you derive from it rather than just posting from the livejournal website? is it just easier for when livejournal's down? because that hasn't happened to me very often at all. any insight would be appreciated.

i just got it from the download page of the livejournal site. i'm having issues with it already, though. both times you commented, it opened my friends page instead of the comment page. and there doesn't seem to be the option of responding to comments through the client...i think i need to work out the kinks a bit.

i'm using lj for windows, v 1.4.6, for the record. i don't think you can reply to friends' pages using the client, but maybe i haven't fully explored my client. (woo, that sounds kinky!) umm, yeah, so...i dunno. i just always use the webby thing for replies and the client for posting.

I use a client (another one that the one you're using, don't ask which it is 'cause I don't know). I like it because I can set a few things with it -- don't auto-format entry, security level, etc.

I also like it because I don't have to pull up my web browser to write an entry. This is useful at work, since my poor machine only has 128MB of RAM. I need to have Lotus Notes open at all times, and usually Frame2000. Between the two, my machine crashes pretty regularly. Having a web browser usually exacerbates it.

My favourite reason, though, is the spellcheck. Since it's a client installed on my machine, it can have a user dictionary. It no longer complains when I use 'colour' or 'geekgirl' or 'IBM'.

i mainly use the client (phoenix) 'cause you can save drafts, and unless i'm missing something, you can't do that when you update from the site. netscape crashes on me fairly often and i've lost a lot of long, important journal entries that way.

also, for some reason (prolly 'cause i have an old version of netscape), i can't post to friends groups from the site -- unless i use explorer and i really fucking hate explorer!

i use the mac client (phoenix). i like the interface better, i like that i can save my entries, and i fucking hate filling out web forms and clicking and waiting and clicking and waiting. i use the web client if i'm not at my own computer (like at work), but i prefer the client at home.

i'm running Mac OSX and I use iJournal as my lj client. I've yet to have *any* problems with it. You can save drafts and it also syncs up with your iTunes. :-)
