(no subject)
Feb. 16th, 2005 06:20 pmugh. i am exceedingly disturbed that there's even a small chance ahmed chalabi might end up prime minister of iraq, let alone such a BIG chance. not to mention it's kinda weird that this article doesn't mention anything about chalabi's suspected spying for iran. hmmm.
i'm also shocked by the rightward turn that democrats are taking on the subject of abortion. of all the culturally conservative issues to try to manipulate to our purposes, why use abortion when polls have showed for years that a majority of americans believe abortion should be legal (though with certain restrictions)? well, ok. i guess i'm not shocked. more like disappointed. it would be hard to be shocked by anything stupid the democrats do at this point, because stupid things are pretty much all they do. though i think dean, despite a lot of jubilation about his chairmanship on the right, will be a good party leader. at least better than roemer. imagine if the democrats had anti-abortion men as both the party chairman AND the senate majority leader. i would officially not feel like a democrat anymore.
and, further on in that article, it says that NARAL isn't going to protest the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act, which, though not mentioned in the article (shades of chalabi), would require all doctors who provide abortions to tell their patients that there's a chance their fetus will feel pain during the procedure, even though there is no conclusive scientific proof of this.
and for good measure, here's a good essay from 1115 on regressive taxation and the social security "crisis".
