Oct. 8th, 2004 03:47 pmi finished the davinci code last night. it was a perfectly serviceable read. the writing certainly wasn't good, but he pulled together a nice little mystery. i disliked the number of exposition-fairy passages. when a book needs that much explanation, you know it hasn't quite succeeded. there were also a number of puzzle bits that i got long before the characters in the book did. all in all, it was a stereotypical airplane thriller with some interesting gnostic history thrown in.
since september 7th, i have read:
1. everything is illuminated, by jonathan safran foer
2. the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime, by mark haddon
3. animal farm, by george orwell
4. portnoy's complaint, by philip roth
5. colors insulting to nature, by cintra wilson
6. postcards from the edge, by carrie fisher
7. the kite runner, by kaled hosseini
8. jonathan strange and mr. norrell, by susanna clark.
9. madeleine is sleeping, by sarah shun-lien bynum
10. the davinci code, by dan brown
up next? the plot against america and the new pterry book.
